Georgia Historical Society Launches History Belongs to Us All Campaign

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Thursday, July 9th, 2026

The Georgia Historical Society (GHS) today announced the launch of History Belongs to Us All, a new public awareness campaign designed to introduce audiences to the GHS's educational and research mission and to demonstrate why history matters to every Georgian.

At the heart of the campaign is an 11-minute feature video accompanied by nine short-form videos that highlight the many ways GHS collects, preserves, examines, teaches, and shares Georgia's history. Together, the videos tell the story of the Georgia Historical Society, which has served the state for nearly two centuries while helping people better understand the past and its relevance to the present and future.

"History truly belongs to all of us," said Dr. W. Todd Groce, President and CEO of the Georgia Historical Society. "This campaign is an invitation to discover the many ways the study of history helps us to understand the present in order to build a better future. These videos demonstrate why preserving and understanding our shared past matters."

Georgia’s history is still being discovered, preserved, and understood. It is also being taught, questioned, applied, and carried forward by educators, students, researchers, families, civic leaders, and communities across the state.

As the nation commemorates the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States, the Georgia Historical Society continues to serve as a trusted source for evidence-based history and to make that history accessible to all. For 187 years, GHS has been the premier statewide independent educational and research institution responsible for teaching, examining, and collecting Georgia and American history. GHS supports teachers and students, maintains one of the nation's most significant archival collections, produces award-winning educational programs and publications, administers the statewide historical marker program, and provides resources that help people explore the stories that have shaped both Georgia and the United States.

The History Belongs to Us All campaign encourages viewers to explore how the Georgia Historical Society helps to provide context for today's world, fosters informed citizenship, and connects people through a shared understanding of the past. The videos offer an engaging introduction to the people, collections, educational programs, and statewide impact of the Georgia Historical Society.

The full feature video and all nine companion videos are available at History Belongs to Us All.
