Citrus Fruits are Headed to Georgia Ports with a Growing Trade in Chilled Imports
Thursday, March 19th, 2026
Georgia Ports Authority officials said they are preparing for this season’s first arrivals of citrus from across the world. Officials said this year they will serve a broader mix of citrus customers and cold chain shippers.
Imports from South Africa, Chile, and Peru are expected to arrive at the Port of Savannah in May and June.
A new service from ocean carrier MSC is being hosted by the Georgia Ports that will:
- Introduce a new service linking West and South Africa to Savannah with a reported 26-day transit time.
- Seaboard Marine has restored direct weekly container service to Savannah, with port officials saying the route strengthens links between the U.S. Southeast, Latin America and the Caribbean.
- The first northbound vessel arrived Jan. 7 from Colombia, with stops in Cartagena, Barranquilla, Santa Marta and Rio Haina, Dominican Republic.
- The service includes Wednesday arrivals and departures in Savannah, plus connections to West Coast South America via transshipment.
