Piedmont Fayette Hospital Announces $275M Expansion
Wednesday, July 30th, 2025
Piedmont Fayette Hospital has received approval from the Piedmont Healthcare Board of Directors for a $275 million expansion project. This significant investment will transform the hospital’s campus and enhance its ability to care for the rapidly growing community it serves. This project represents the largest capital investment by the Piedmont system since the Marcus Tower on the campus of Piedmont Atlanta, the system’s founding hospital.
The project will include the addition of a new patient tower, with shelled space for potential future expansion. Piedmont Fayette, which opened in 1997 with 54 beds, has grown substantially. Today, it boasts 310 beds, employs more than 2,300 people, performs over 13,000 surgeries annually, and handles 130,000 outpatient encounters each year.
The renovation and expansion will extend to other crucial areas of the hospital. This includes surgical services, with four new operating rooms and space for an additional four. The kitchen, lab, and pharmacy will also see renovations. A new Central Utility Plant will be built, sized to serve the entire expanded campus, and the loading dock will be expanded and renovated. The new construction will encompass approximately 218,250 square feet, with an additional 31,304 square feet of existing space being renovated.
“Piedmont Fayette has been fortunate to grow alongside Fayette County since we opened our doors in 1997,” said Steve Porter, CEO of Piedmont Fayette. “The scale of this project reflects how the hospital has grown to serve not just Fayette, but patients of counties to our north and south. This expansion is necessary to care for the needs of the greater community and to continue to provide high-quality, patient-centered care.”
Formerly known as Fayette Community Hospital, Piedmont Fayette has evolved into a regional medical center. This growth is attributed to the rapid development of the area around the campus and the hospital's reputation for stellar care.
“We opened the East Tower (our last expansion) towards the end of 2017,” said Porter. “Since then, we have focused on bringing new providers and technology to the hospital to perform more complex cases. We believe this expansion is the next logical step for Piedmont Fayette and the region.”
Construction is expected to begin in early 2026 and be completed within three years.
