West Georgia Technical College Foundation Welcomes Two New Board Members

The West Georgia Technical College (WGTC) Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of two community members to its Board of Trustees: Emory Barber, Vice President of Engineering at Southwire Company, and Sara Ray, President & CEO of the Douglas County Chamber. Their leadership, expertise, and commitment to workforce development will further the Foundation’s mission to support students and programs at WGTC.

Emory Barber: Leader in Engineering and Innovation

With over 34 years at Southwire, Emory Barber brings a wealth of experience in engineering, project management, and continuous improvement. As Vice President of Engineering, he has played a pivotal role in Southwire’s modernization efforts, ensuring the company remains at the forefront of innovation in the industry. Barber holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology from Southern Polytechnic State University and has completed executive development coursework at Emory University’s Goizueta Business School. His extensive background in business development and strategic planning will be an asset to the WGTC Foundation as it continues to expand opportunities for students and strengthen industry partnerships.

Sara Ray: A Visionary in Economic and Community Development

Sara Ray, President & CEO of the Douglas County Chamber, brings over 20 years of visionary leadership in business advocacy and economic development. Under her leadership, the Chamber has achieved significant membership and financial growth, while fostering key partnerships such as the creation of Elevate Douglas Economic Partnership in 2021. Ray has launched impactful initiatives, including county-wide equity discussions and workforce development programs, that have strengthened the business community. She holds a bachelor's degree in communication studies from the University of North Carolina Wilmington and a master's degree in education management from Strayer University. Ray’s dedication to fostering collaboration between education and industry aligns perfectly with the Foundation’s mission to enhance student success and workforce readiness.

The WGTC Foundation supports scholarships, facility improvements, and program enhancements to ensure students receive a high-quality education that meets the evolving needs of local industries. The addition of Barber and Ray to the board strengthens the Foundation’s ability to build corporate partnerships and advance educational opportunities across the region.
