Thursday, December 5th, 2024

The Technology Association of Georgia (TAG) Smart Communities and Sustainability Societytoday published the first-ever TAG Cleantech & Sustainability Ecosystem Report. This report outlines how Georgia's ecosystem drives sustainable economic expansion that creates jobs in growth industries, commercializes technologies that address climate challenges, and elevates communities throughout the state. It features insights from key corporations and organizations helping to meet the state’s economic, decarbonization, and sustainability goals.

Over the last 10 years, Georgia has primed itself for growth in the Cleantech and sustainability sector. Currently, the state has announced 41 new clean energy-related projects, which are projected to account for over 30,000 jobs and more than $23 billion in investments. Strategic collaborations between government, businesses, and academic institutions have further solidified the state's leadership in Cleantech, driving innovation and advancements across many sectors including energy, transportation, buildings, infrastructure, financial services, agriculture, and the broader circular economy.

“Georgia’s Cleantech ecosystem is a driving force behind innovation and job creation, powered by strong collaboration between the public and private sectors,” said Larry K. Williams, President & CEO of TAG. “The release of this report underscores our commitment to fostering a culture of sustainability, driving economic impact, and positioning Georgia as a leader in clean technology advancements.”

“Cleantech is thriving in Georgia and helping to push our economy forward. We are at a momentous point in our journey, and it’s time we gather the data to tell and track our story," said Cynthia Curry, Senior Director of Cleantech Ecosystem at the Metro Atlanta Chamber. "The 2024 Cleantech & Sustainability Ecosystem Report will provide valuable knowledge on our current state, including gaps we need to address, the industry's economic impact, and how Georgia can unleash and breed innovation by collaborating for a common goal."

The report compiles a comprehensive list of organizations – large and small – within the state supporting the rapidly growing ecosystem that can be a valuable resource guide for both new and emerging players. The content also highlights key leaders in the space utilizing innovative climate solutions and technologies while showcasing collaborations that are delivering real results and can provide a blueprint for others that want to magnify their impact.

“Ecosystems are the force-multipliers of their members' actions,” said Andy Marshall, Executive Director of the Georgia Cleantech Innovation Hub. “An annual 'check-in', like this report, allows all participants to take stock of the growth and accomplishments of the ecosystem and to craft collaborative action plans for the year to come.”

The TAG Smart Communities & Sustainability Society spearheaded the development of the report alongside strategic partners, Metro Atlanta Chamber and Georgia Cleantech Innovation Hub, who are focused on the success of our region and the widespread growth of the Cleantech and sustainability sector. The report made its debut at TAG’s 4th Annual Infrastructure & Sustainability Outlook event.
