Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Friday, December 6th, 2024

City of Hope® Cancer Center Atlanta today welcomes Debora Bruno, M.D., M.S., thoracic medical oncologist and medical director of Clinical Research, to their team. In her role, Dr. Bruno will treat patients in the Lung and Thoracic Cancer Centers while also supervising and facilitating the expansion of clinical trials.

“Dr. Bruno brings an impressively extensive background in oncology treatment and research to City of Hope Atlanta,” said Dr. Kristin Higgins, chief clinical officer of City of Hope Atlanta. “We are highly focused on ensuring more cancer patients in Georgia and across the southeast have access to leading-edge treatments and trials, and anticipate Dr. Bruno’s experienced leadership will accelerate the progress of that goal.”

Jonathan Watkins, president at City of Hope Atlanta, also shared, “We are thrilled to bring Dr. Bruno on board. Her expertise in clinical research and thoracic oncology will make a remarkable impact on our programs at City of Hope and drive forward our mission to bring hope to those impacted by cancer.”

A board-certified and fellowship-trained thoracic oncologist, Bruno joins the team after serving at Siedman Cancer Center’s Division of Hematology and Oncology as the director of their Thoracic Medical Oncology Program and staff physician, and as the medical director of the Dahms Clinical Research Unit for University Hospitals’ Cleveland Medical Center in Ohio. A respected physician-scholar, Dr. Bruno has more than 100 publications, abstract presentations and book chapters to her name, oversees dozens of clinical trials and has been recognized with multiple awards. She’s active in several professional societies and serves as a member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network’s Clinical Practice Guidelines in Oncology Committee, which determines standards of care for non-small cell lung cancer, malignant pleural mesothelioma and thymomas and thymic carcinomas.

Bruno’s passion for oncology stems from her desire to serve others with diligence and compassion — a trait she learned from watching her father, a physician himself — and an innate scientific interest in human biology. She is highly interested in making cancer care, and especially the latest clinical trials, more diverse and approachable for patients everywhere.

“I am excited to be part of a multidisciplinary team of colleagues that will be committed to bringing leading-edge treatments to our patients,” said Bruno, “And who work together to help patients achieve their goals when living with and surviving cancer every day.”
