The University of West Georgia Theatre Company is thrilled to announce its upcoming production of “’Twas the Night Before Christmas,” a delightful adaptation of the classic poem by playwright Ken Ludwig. This holiday tale is set to be a highlight of the UWG Theatre Company’s Friends & Family season and runs from Nov. 12-16 at 7 p.m., with matinee performances on Nov. 16 and 17 at 2:30 p.m. All performances will be at the Townsend Center for Performing Arts.
Known for his many successful comedies like “Lend Me a Tenor,” “Moon Over Buffalo” and the book for the musical “Crazy for You,” Ludwig’s “’Twas the Night Before Christmas” is his first attempt at writing a children’s play, and he pulls out all the stops.
It was first produced by Adventure Theatre in Washington, D.C. in 2011, where it received rave reviews. The Washington Post said, “A momentum and ebullience worthy of the Pixar era-animate, this world-premiere play, whose storyline involves a heist, a duel with rapiers, some hip-hop, a squirt gun, a perilous airplane flight and an elf’s stint as a secret agent.”
“’Twas the Night Before Christmas” follows Emily and her friend Amos the Mouse as they team up with a friendly elf to solve the mystery of why Santa missed their house last Christmas. It is a festive journey filled with laughter, music, sword fighting and holiday spirit, and the company invites you to experience this delightful production and see the magic for yourself.
