Newnan Junior Service League Grants $17,000 for Portable Dental X-Ray System

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Tuesday, June 4th, 2024

The Newnan Junior Service League presented the Coweta Samaritan Clinic a $17,000 grant at its year-end dinner to purchase a portable dental X-ray system as part of its Enhancing and Expanding Care campaign.

The system includes a portable KAVO handheld X-ray device, sensor kit, and laptop. Having this technology at the Clinic will give staff the ability to evaluate Clinic patients’ dental needs immediately in its Jackson Street location, even prior to its new Dental Services Wing’s opening.

“Because of the Newnan Junior Service League’s support, we will be able to begin providing basic dental screenings in our office, which will be a tremendous benefit to our patients,” said Kay Crosby, MD, Clinic founder, chairman, and volunteer medical director. “Last fall, we shared our vision to expand the care we provide through the addition of onsite dental services with the League, and we are so grateful they decided to support our efforts.”

This new technology at the Clinic will allow providers to take a set of dental X-rays to share with volunteer dentists in the community. If any issues are found in the X-rays, the volunteer dentists can work with the Clinic to coordinate dental care for the patient.

The Newnan Junior Service League was founded in 1926. Today, the 80 members of the league organize various fundraising events to help support the Coweta County community including Christmas in Newnan, Can-a-thon, a grant recipient, and scholarships. Through these events, over $20,000 in scholarships were awarded to Coweta County high school seniors. For more information, visit www.njslserves.org.

“We are honored to support organizations like the Coweta Samaritan Clinic,” said Jenna Sherman, 2023-24 NJSL President. “I am so proud of the League’s fundraising efforts this year, through our Mardi Gras Casino Night and Legends of the League Charity Golf Tournament. We are grateful for the generosity of our sponsors and community, furthering our mission to make a positive impact in the area."

“This gift gets us one step closer to our overall goal of raising $650,000 to fund our building renovation and program expansion,” said Hines. “The Newnan Junior Service League is a storied organization in our community, and we are honored they have entrusted us with the results of their year-long fundraising efforts to advance the services we provide our patients.”

The Coweta Samaritan Clinic relies solely on community contributions to operate, and this one-time fundraising campaign is separate from its annual fundraising. The community is invited to be part of this crucial effort to improve the lives of Coweta County residents.
