West Georgia Technical College (WGTC) Dental Hygiene student Haylee Burgess of Heflin, Alabama was selected as a Hinman Scholar, receiving a $1,000 scholarship from the Hinman Dental Society of Atlanta.

Since 2006, the Hinman Society has donated more than $11 million in scholarships and financial support to universities and institutions associated with dental education, according to the organization’s website. Scholarships are awarded to hygiene, assisting, laboratory technicians and dental students throughout the Southeast.

“We are thrilled to congratulate Haylee on being awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the Hinman Society,” said Nikki Gilbert, Dean of Health Sciences. “Her exceptional scholastic performance and dedication to her academic goals have truly set her apart. We are proud to support her academic journey and look forward to seeing her continued success in the future.”

Burgess, who is expected to graduate in May 2024, plans to work full-time as a registered dental hygienist after graduation.

“This scholarship means so much to me,” said Burgess. “The board exam I have to take to obtain my dental hygiene license is very expensive, and the scholarship I received helped cover the cost.”
