Georgia gas price average continues to increase at the pump compared to a week ago. Georgia drivers are now paying an average price of $2.81 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline (subject to change overnight). Monday's state average is 5 cents more than a week ago, 11 cents less than a month ago, and 30 cents less than this time last year. It now costs $42.15 to fill a 15-gallon tank of regular gasoline. Although gas prices increased this week drivers continue to pay almost $2.00 less to fill-up at the pump compared to a month ago.

“Gas prices are increasing nationally due to tighter supply and elevated demand,” said Montrae Waiters, AAA-The Auto Club Group spokeswoman. “In the southern states, Georgia continues to have the cheapest gas at the pumps. However, that ranking may end once Georgia terminates its gas tax suspension on Tuesday, January 10^th.”

Pump Prices Spike Nationally

Since last Monday, the national average for a gallon of regular gasoline rose by 8 cents to $3.28 (subject to change overnight). According to data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gas demand rose from 8.71 to 9.33 million barrels a day. However, the current rate is nearly 400,000 barrels a day lower than at the end of December 2021. Meanwhile, total domestic gasoline stocks fell by 3.1 million barrels to 223 million barrels. Tighter supply and higher gasoline demand are pushing pump prices higher. As demand remains robust and stocks remain tight, drivers could continue to see pump prices increase as the new year begins.
