In August 2022, the Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) awarded a total of 7 projects valued at approximately $104,760,095.

The largest single investment, worth approximately $4 million, was awarded to Comanche Construction of Georgia, Inc. This bridge rehabilitation project will include concrete overlay, edge beam replacement, joint replacement, painting, spall repair and corrections of settlement issue on six bridges located in Carroll, Cherokee, Floyd and Whitfield Counties. This contract, along with two other bridge rehabilitation contracts, represents 51 percent of the awarded funds.

The second largest contract is a bridge construction project worth approximately $3 million. This project was awarded to Williams Construction Company, Inc and will consist of 0.299 mile of construction of a bridge and approaches on US 27 ALT over Coleman Creek. This contract represents 24 percent of the awarded funds.

Construction projects represent 14 percent, or approximately $2 million, of the awarded funds. 

Approximately $1 million, or 8 percent, of the awarded funds were for a widening and reconstruction project.

The remaining three percent is allotted for safety projects including signing and pavement marking upgrades at various railroad crossings in Atkinson, Brooks, Cook, Lanier and Lowndes counties.

There were two widening and reconstruction projects, worth approximately $93 million, that were deferred and should be awarded at another time. The first is on US 441/SR 89/SR 31 from south of US 221 to north of US 82 and includes the construction of three bridges and approaches over Little Red Bluff Creek Overflow in Atkinson County. The second is on Atlanta Highway from Post Road to SR 141 and includes the construction of a bridge and approaches over Big Creek in Forsyth County. 

The August awards bring the total construction contracts for Fiscal Year 2023 to $146 million. This total includes TIA, Design-Bid-Build and locally administered projects. Fiscal Year 2023 began July 1, 2022.
