Commissioner Shaw Urges Georgia Congressional Delegation to Intervene in Natural Gas Policy

Public Service Commissioner Jason Shaw has sent a letter to Georgia’s Congressional Delegation outlining recent policy shifts in natural gas pipeline policy by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).

Natural gas availability has helped Georgia recruit industry to the state and has helped Georgia become the Best State for Business over nine straight years. FERC’s recent actions have caused several major pipeline expansion projects to stall. Without Congressional intervention, availability of cheap and abundant natural gas could suffer, Commissioner Shaw said.

“Absent help from Congress, FERC’s decisions on natural gas will affect not just Georgia but energy capacity across the United States,” Commissioner Shaw said. “We should be expanding access to these energy production methods instead of slowing down while we watch China and India expand.”

The letter sent to the district office of each Georgia U.S. Congressman, U.S. Congresswoman and U.S. Senator is attached. Every member of the Georgia Public Service Commission signed Commissioner Shaw’s letter in support.

The Georgia Public Service Commission is a five-member constitutional agency that exercises its authority and influence to ensure that consumers receive safe, reliable, and reasonably- priced telecommunications, electric and natural gas service from financially viable and technically competent companies.
