West Georgia Technical College had a new record breaking year at its annual, signature fundraiser, Black Tie & Boots. The WGTC Foundation made a net profit of more than $150,000 for scholarships and general student support at the 20th annual event on September 16th, breaking the previous year’s net profit record of $86,000.The Foundation also used the event to present the annual “Spirit of Giving” Award to the Kiwanis Club of LaGrange for its dedication, partnership and support of technical education at West Georgia Tech.

“We are thankful for the partnership we have with the Kiwanis Club of LaGrange and their continued support for our students,” said Brittney Henderson, Executive Director of the West Georgia Technical College Foundation.

The Kiwanis Club of LaGrange committed to a $25,000 endowment to support students at WGTC. In July, the club gave the remaining $15,000 to complete their pledge.

“We are proud to have received this honor from West Georgia Tech,” said John Carden, President of the Kiwanis Club of LaGrange. “We were fortunate and have a good membership base. We consider ourselves more of a service organization than a civic organization, so we went to work for these students.”

The Spirit of Giving Award is awarded to an individual or group who has made a significant contribution to advancing the quality and availability of technical education in our community through support of the foundation. Last year’s award recipient was SMI and the Stone Family. Previous award recipients include Ronnie Jordan of Jordan Truck Sales, Greystone Power Corporation, Newnan Hospital, Inc. the City of Carrollton, the Callaway Foundation, Southwire Company, Carroll EMC, Coweta-Fayette EMC, the Hightower Family and the J.
