Monday, July 18th, 2022

Tamu Lewis released her book “Surviving the Mental Health Tank” in May 2022, centering the publication date on Mental Health Awareness Month.

In a short time, the book has generated a significant amount of discussion in human resource circles, the business space, and the mental health community. Already, the book has been featured in several media outlets and has created meaningful dialogue around the issue of mental health online and in social media.

“I could not be more thrilled with the outpouring of support that I have received since releasing this book,” Lewis said. “This has been a major part of the healing process for my family, my hope is that we can continue to help families and remove the stigma surrounding mental health challenges and treatment.”

Lewis is the founder of the Lee Thompson Young Foundation, based in the Atlanta area. Her brother, Lee Thompson Young, was a successful Hollywood actor who sadly lost his battle with mental illness in 2013. Since that time, the Foundation has worked tirelessly to remove the barriers for people to receive holistic treatment for their mental health challenges.

Since the release of the book, sales on Amazon and Lewis’ website have been above and beyond what was originally expected, and the author predicts the positive reception to only increase throughout this year and beyond.

On July 21, Lewis will be hosting a book signing event at Wahoo! Grill in Decatur from 6PM-8PM. The event is an opportunity for friends and the local community

to come together to learn more about Lewis, her background, and how the book can benefit nearly everyone in some way.

Registration information for that event can be found on Eventbrite:

Attendees can bring their own book for signature or purchase a copy at the event. Of note, July is Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, and this provides an extraordinary opportunity for those in the community to support this cause, taking action to remove the stigma and move forward together.
