Georgia Sees 6% Y-o-Y Growth in Industrial Energy Use in 2021, New CommercialCafe Study
Friday, April 15th, 2022
Last year was marked by several attempts at resuming life and work, as industrial energy consumption picked up and residential usage increased. The transition to remote work has shifted expectations regarding the future of workspaces — not the least of which is energy usage optimization.
Using data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), we looked at changes in yearly U.S. energy sales between 2020 and 2021, as well as power generation trends between 2011 and 2021, detailing the makeup of energy production across various states.
Here’s how Georgia compared to the nation as a whole:
-
Total energy consumption in Georgia grew by 3% compared to 2020 – totaling 137 million MWH in 2021.
-
The industrial sector saw the biggest growth in energy use, rising by 6% last year to 33 million MWH.
-
Commercial energy consumption increased by 3%, and residential by 2%, compared to 2020.
-
Nationwide, overall energy use in 2021 increased by 2% year-over-year. The commercial and industrial sectors saw the biggest growth (3% y-o-y), while residential increased by 1% y-o-y.
