New unemployment claims increased slightly week-over-week on February 28, but were still 96% below the peak during the COVID-19 pandemic. To help add some context to this statistic, WalletHub just released updated rankings for theStates Whose Unemployment Claims Are Increasing the Most, along with accompanying videos and audio files

Key Stats:

  • Every state had unemployment claims last week that were lower than before the pandemic except for New Jersey, Texas, Nebraska, New Hampshire, Minnesota, Wyoming, Rhode Island, California, Alaska, Massachusetts, Hawaii, Indiana, Michigan, Utah, Ohio, Kansas, New York, Kentucky, and D.C. 

  • Surprisingly, Kansas and D.C. had unemployment claims last week that were worse than the same week last year.
