Friday, October 2nd, 2020
U.S. Senator Kelly Loeffler (R-Ga.) today announced Georgia will receive a total of $15.2 million in grants from the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) to address workforce impact of COVID and help rural communities with workforce development.
The Technical College System of Georgia has received a $13.2 million grant through DOL’s Dislocated Worker Grant program to address the workforce impacts of COVID-19.
In addition, DOL’s Workforce Opportunity for Rural Communities Initiative, in partnership with the Appalachian Regional Commission and Delta Regional Authority, has awarded the University of North Georgia a $1.4 million grant and the Northeast Georgia Regional Commission a $618,000 grant. These grants are designed to develop local and regional workforce development solutions in rural areas that align with economic development strategies.
“Investing in workforce development will create jobs while growing Georgia’s competitive edge in the workplace,” said Loeffler. “These grants will help ensure the next generation is ready to meet the challenges of the future. I thank President Donald Trump and his administration for their commitment to helping workers and our rural communities, and these grants are just the latest example of that promise.”
