Newnan LINC Project to Install Pedestrian Bridge Over I-85 This Weekend
Friday, October 16th, 2020
What: Crews with the Newnan LINC project will install a pedestrian bridge over Interstate 85 this weekend. The LINC is a 26-mile multi-use network of trails currently being constructed through Newnan, and the new pedestrian bridge will provide a connector for a section that goes from Summerlin Boulevard to McIntosh Parkway. The Georgia Department of Transportation has approved permits for this project, requested by the City of Newnan.
To provide the workers with the space they need to safely construct the bridge, lanes of Interstate 85 will be closed around the work zone. Two northbound and two southbound lanes of the interstate from the Poplar Road interchange (MP 44) to the Georgia 34 interchange (MP 47) will be blocked off from 7:00 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, Oct. 19, 2020.
Temporary signs will be posted in advance of the lane closures, and drivers should slow their speeds and be alert to the workers and their equipment when driving through the area. Traffic back-ups may be likely, and motorists are encouraged to call *511Georgia or consult the free NaviGAtor app for alternate routes.
