Commissioner Tim Echols’ 10th Annual Georgia Clean Energy Roadshow Goes Virtual

Staff Report

Tuesday, August 18th, 2020

The 10th anniversary of the Clean Energy Roadshow will transition from an in-person event series to a unique, all-virtual, four-part webinar series this year. Public Service Commission Vice Chairman Tim Echols and a list of speakers broadcasting live from multiple sites across the state will tout the economic benefits of alternative fuel vehicles and renewable energy projects.

The first event, “How it Works” – Showcasing Georgia’s Clean Fleets, will be held live on Zoom from 1 p.m. – 2 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 20. Free registration is available via this link: www.CleanEnergyRoadshow.com/webinars

As many as 12 different speakers will Zoom in live from their project sites, to recap their success stories with fleet vehicle conversions to natural gas, propane-autogas and electricity. Commissioner Echols will emcee the call from the Mansion Hotel Tesla Chargers near Savannah's famed Forsyth Park, 700 Drayton Street, Savannah, GA, 30401.  Echols will be driving a new Tesla Model Y, provided by Cobb EMC. At 11 a.m., before the event, he will be available to media outside in person or via Zoom or phone. To set up an interview with Commissioner Echols, call Tom Krause at the number above or Commissioner Echols directly at 706-340-0773.

One of the most notable projects highlighted during the August 20th Roadshow webinar this year, will be Enmarket - the first public convenience store chain in Georgia to offer both compressed natural-gas fueling and electric vehicle charging at one location, 7002 GA Highway 21, Port Wentworth, GA, 31407. Matt Clements, vice president of marketing for Enmarket, will demonstrate both natural-gas fueling of a truck supplied by Atlanta Gas Light and DC Fast charging of a Tesla Model X from the store, during the live webinar starting at 1p.m. Clements will be available to media at noon. To set up an interview, call Tom Krause at the number above or Clements on directly at [email protected].

Thursday’s event will be followed by three other virtual 1-hour webinars, each with their own economic development theme, and with a similar "show and tell" format with live demonstrations:

  • August 25:  Finding and Funding Georgia Clean Energy Projects
  • September 29: Renewable Energy Works in Georgia
  • October 8:  Alternative Fuel Vehicle Virtual Expo

Background: In 2010, Georgia Public Service Commission Vice Chairman Echols wanted to find a way to highlight trends in alternative-fuel-vehicle technology, transportation, mobility and sustainability for Georgia municipalities and businesses. The Clean Energy Roadshow was developed as an in-person event series with a vehicle showcase, to demonstrate how industry and government in rural and urban communities alike can use – or could benefit from the use of – electric, propane and natural gas vehicles and renewable energy.

This is Commissioner Echols’ second term on the Georgia Public Service Commission, having been re-elected statewide in November 2016. You can find his complete biography and photo on the Commission web site at https://psc.ga.gov/about-the-psc/commissioners/tim-echols/
