Georgia Military College has named Randall Bonser Adjunct Educator of the Year for the 2019-2020 school year. Bonser is a professor of English 101 & 201, College Writing, and Creative Writing at GMC’s Fayetteville Campus.

Bonser has a Master of Fine Arts in Writing for Children and Young Adults from Hamline University in Minnesota. He uses that degree as a children’s book writer and free-lance copywriter, in addition to his role at GMC. Bonser joined the GMC-Columbus team in 2017 before moving to the Fayetteville campus the following year. He says as a Professor, he wants to expose students to a variety of writing genres, so they can test what they’re drawn to and what they’re good at.

 “I love writing, and I fully believe in the power of writing in a person's life and career,” Bonser said.
“When I see a student who has always been told they're a substandard writer, or who has never experienced the power of self-expression, to see them catch a vision and begin to enjoy the writing process, that is fulfilling. I also enjoy the mind-boggling diversity of students at GMC; some of my best students have been children of immigrants, former soldiers, and super-motivated non-traditional students who could not afford a four-year school.”

Bonser says teaching Junior College students is a rewarding experience.

“In many ways, community college students are the future of our country,” Bonser said. “These are the hard workers who are holding down jobs, taking care of other family members, studying for citizenship requirements, and in most cases doing ten things at once. It is sometimes frustrating as an Instructor to be one of many responsibilities, but it is fulfilling when they succeed – it makes the hard work worthwhile.”

Executive Director at GMC’s Fayetteville, Fairburn, Stone Mountain, and Zebulon campuses, Brigadier General Rock Donahue, says he’s proud to have Bonser serve on the Fayetteville team.

“Randall Bonser is a consummate professional, gifted instructor, and inspired servant leader of character who contributes immeasurably to the success of his students,” Donahue said. “Humbled with the recognition of GMC Adjunct Educator of the Year for 2019-2020, Mr. Bonser continues to shine brightly in a constellation of exceedingly talented faculty at the Fayetteville Campus and through Georgia Military College.”
