The Heritage School launched its virtual learning instruction on Tuesday, March 17, 2020, assuring every student from 3 years old to high school seniors preparing to graduate in a few short months continue to receive their education. What’s transpired has transformed an unsettling situation into a fun and effective way for students to continue to prosper academically, physically, and mentally, while strengthening camaraderie.
The Heritage School invites you to visit campus to see firsthand how students and faculty are engaged in a stimulating virtual learning environment. Head of School, Kristin Skelly, Upper School and Middle School Director, Nathan Watts, and Early Learning Center and Lower School Director, Donna Dougherty will be available to show you how faculty are connecting with students in real-time, not to mention taking attendance for every class. Watch faculty members demonstrate live virtual classes. The school’s mission statement focuses on developing the students’ Mind, Body, Spirit, and Camaraderie. It is essential to maintain the mission even in the unprecedented learning environment; Mind (continuing challenging academics), Body (an energizing physical education program is provided daily with students who share recordings of their workouts with the P.E. teachers), Spirit (receiving counseling and health services via a secure telemedicine portal) and Camaraderie (theme days for online classrooms and club meetings). Members of the staff will also be available to share how they are engaging students outside of the class to maintain a sense of community by hosting online movie nights, club meetings, and family challenges. Administration and faculty are thinking beyond and addressing the needs of the students and their families.
