UWG Hosts 400 Prospective Students at Preview Day
Wednesday, February 5th, 2020
The University of West Georgia hosted more than 400 students recently at its winter Preview Day, which serves as an open house to show prospective students and their guests the unique opportunities offered at the university.
Preview Day events are held three times each year at UWG in the winter, spring and fall. The next university-wide Preview Day will be held on Sunday, April 19. The university will also hold college-specific Preview Days in February and March.
“Preview Day is an opportunity for prospective freshmen, transfer students, and adult learners to come on campus and to get a feel for the university,” said Dillon Montes de Oca, associate director of admissions for visits and events. “It gives students the chance to explore different tracks and attend sessions that align with their unique interests.”
Preview Day attendees were given the chance to see the UWG campus on their own terms, meeting professors and seeing residence halls on student-led tours.
The 407 prospective students and their 818 guests broke out into different Preview Day activities, from walking and bus tours to informational sessions on topics such as career services and financial aid.
“The success of the event really speaks to the wonders of our community at UWG,” Montes de Oca said. “This event wouldn’t be possible without the faculty and staff and the care they put into showcasing the university.”
Each Preview Day, the office of undergraduate admissions opens its doors to students for same-day admissions decisions. They accepted 45 new students during this winter’s event.
“We were so excited to welcome so many prospective Wolves to campus on Sunday,” said Katie Ross, associate director of operations and communications in undergraduate admissions. “My favorite part of the day is helping students through the admissions process and watching their faces when they are told they are accepted West."
Prospective students and guests are encouraged to attend as many general or college-specific Preview Days as they wish to see if UWG is the right fit for them.
College Preview Days give prospective students a chance to learn more about what each school and college has to offer. Attendees can meet professors, get information on majors and tour campus with students from specific schools or colleges of interest.
College Preview Day for the College of Education, the College of Arts and Humanities, and the Richards College of Business will be held Saturday, Feb. 29.
An event catered to students interested in the College of Social Sciences, the College of Science and Mathematics, and the Tanner Health System School of Nursing will be held Saturday, March 7.
