The WOLF Internet Radio at the University of West Georgia made its mark on a national level at the Intercollegiate Broadcasting Systems Golden Microphone Awards (IBS), bringing home awards to the University of West Georgia.

IBS, a nonprofit organization with a membership of over 1,000 collegiate radio stations, holds an annual conference where they present awards in various radio categories. To be considered for an award, each candidate can submit up to three submissions per category.

The WOLF was nominated for awards in 11 categories and brought home first place in three of those categories.

The WOLF was recognized as the Best Streaming Only Radio Station, a category reserved for stations at institutions with more than 10,000 students. This award placed The WOLF higher than prestigious nominees such as Cerritos College’s WPMB and DePaul University’s Radio DePaul.

Shawn Isaacs, general manager of The WOLF Internet Radio, is extremely proud of the students at the radio station.

“The students work hard, and these awards show what they already know, that they are the best,” he said.

In addition, The WOLF also brought home the award for Best TV Station Promotion, and alum Jasmine Render claimed Best Promotions Director, Radio.

Student Jazmyne Dedrick, who then worked under Render as assistant promotions director, was motivated to become part of the promotions department after seeing her work.

“I carried out every task she needed me to,” Dedrick said. “Helping to put together all the little things that promoted such a positive bigger picture was an amazing accomplishment, and I can’t wait to follow in her footsteps.”

Members of The WOLF traveled to New York to represent UWG and receive the awards.

“To be nominated for Best Streaming Radio five years in a row, and finally win, really shows the students at The WOLF that they are accomplishing greatness,” Isaacs concluded. “It recognizes the hard work they put in every week, month, semester and every year.”
