SkillsUSA Students Rack Up Medals at Regional Competition

A total of 24 students from three high schools brought home 16 top three placements from the SkillsUSA Region 5 Competition held at Southern Crescent Technical College.
Students from Fayette County High, Starr’s Mill High and Sandy Creek High collectively won seven gold medals, five silver medals and four bronze medals in events ranging from information technology, graphic design, broadcasting, extemporaneous speaking, and prepared speech to medical assisting, first aid, job skill demonstration, job interview, and automotive service technology.
Students who won gold and silver medals in their events will compete at the SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference in March. Students advancing to the state conference include: (Fayette County High) Bree Coreus, gold, Job Interview; Gabe Buckshot, silver, T-Shirt Design; Chris Carley, silver, Automotive Service Technology; (Sandy Creek High) Hannah Ohlmeier, gold, Advertising Design; Branden Goins, gold, T-Shirt Design; Nyah Huguley, gold, Prepared Speech; Kati Gossett, gold, First Aid/CPR; Daniel Jefferson, gold, Information Technology; Miguel Campos, silver, Pin Design; Isaac Presberg, Lilly Hsu, Jason Davis, and Helen Sorme, silver, Broadcast News Production; Daniella Alvarado, silver, Job Skill Demonstration; and (Starr’s Mill High) Ashlynn Eisele, gold, Medical Assisting.
The state conference will be held at the Georgia International Convention Center March 21-23.
Bronze medal winners from the regional conference include: (Fayette County High) Tyler Munford, Job Skill Demonstration; Lawrence Wilson, Extemporaneous Speaking; (Sandy Creek High) Delaney Schulten, Job Interview; Sarah Sorme, Ariz Sayson, Abby Paver, Kai Phillips, Zoe Shu and Kayla Brooks, Quiz Bowl.
