Students at North Fayette Elementary are now able to be more creative than ever after being awarded a $5,000 grant from The Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation to create Maker’s Space 2.0.
Maker’s Space 2.0 is a place for students to build, create, and explore various aspects of the STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) initiative.
Although North Fayette’s STEAM project team is still working to finalize the details of the space, some of the first purchases will include a high-quality 3D printing machine, building blocks, and exploration materials.
North Fayette’s assistant principal Dr. Monica Reckley says, “We are so thankful for this grant because it will benefit the students of North Fayette by exposing them to tools and experiences that will give them a jump start towards secondary readiness and future job preparedness.”
North Fayette is one of 545 schools across the United States to be awarded a Lowe’s Toolbox for Education grant for improvement projects.
Since 2006, Lowe’s Toolbox for Education has provided nearly $45 million in grants to more than 10,000schools, benefiting more than 6 millionstudentsacross the country.
