Thursday, July 5th, 2018
A new principal will take the helm at Kedron Elementary this school year.
Jamie Voorhies, former assistant principal at Huddleston Elementary, has been selected to replace former Kedron principal Dr. Julie Turner who was recently promoted to assistant superintendent of student achievement for the school system.
Voorhies has been employed by the school system for six years. She began working in Fayette as a third grade teacher at the former Fayetteville Intermediate School (now Fayetteville Elementary) , and also taught first grade at Spring Hill Elementary before being promoted to assistant principal at Huddleston Elementary.
As an assistant principal at Huddleston, Voorhies was responsible for working with the school’s principal to ensure the safety and education of over 600 students and parents, and collaborated with 60 faculty members in student behavior, standards-based instruction, and using data to guide instruction. She also worked to foster collegiality and team building among staff members and encouraged their involvement in decision-making processes. In addition, she worked with other assistant principals in the county to develop a teacher mentor program for teachers new to the school system.
She was recognized for her outstanding leadership abilities by the Georgia Association of Elementary School Principals as the recipient of the association’s 2017 Outstanding Assistant Principal of the Year award.
Voorhies has 18 years of teaching and administrative experience. She started her teaching career in Texas where she was serving as an elementary school assistant principal prior to moving to Fayette County.
The Fayette County Board of Education unanimously approved Voorhies as the new Kedron Elementary principal on June 25 at the regular monthly board meeting.
