SkillsUSA Students Advance to National Competition Sandy Creek High Up for National Chapter Award

A total of three students from Fayette County High and McIntosh High schools took first place honors in their events at the SkillsUSA Georgia State Leadership and Skills Conference and have qualified to compete at the national level.
Nashlly Hernandez-Marmol and Diego Martinez of Fayette County High will compete in 3D Visualization and Animation, and Man Shah of McIntosh High will compete in Medical Terminology at the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference in Louisville, Kentucky in June.
The Sandy Creek High SkillsUSA chapter is under consideration as a SkillsUSA National Model of Excellence. The announcement will be made at the national conference, only 24 chapters across the nation will receive the designation, which is the highest honor a chapter can receive. Sandy Creek was Named a National Model of Excellence in 2015 and 2016. The school is up for consideration after being recognized as one of seven Georgia SkillsUSA Gold Chapters of Distinction for a fourth consecutive year.
All totaled, 19 students from Fayette County High, McIntosh High and Sandy Creek High schools earned medals at the state competition. In addition to the first place award winners in nationally recognized competitive events previously listed, the followings students also earned a gold, silver or bronze medal in their events: (Fayette County High) Bella Alonzo, gold, Communication Skills; Arin Patterson, Lindsey Cagle and Bree Coreus, silver, SkillsUSA Recruitment Video; Matt Bishop, silver, Automotive Electronics; (Sandy Creek High) Summer Mashburn, gold, Promotional Graphic, silver, Georgia Statesmen Pin Design, and bronze, Promotional Bulletin Board; Sarah Sorme, gold, Math Applications; Marcus Phelps, silver, culinary; Ariz Sayson, silver, Related Technical Math; Fanny Cheng, silver, Georgia Pin Design; James McDaniel, bronze, Technical Computer Applications; Liberty Harris, bronze, Promotional Bulletin Board; Amalie Rosales, bronze, Promotional Bulletin Board; Galilla Mulugeta, bronze, Community Service; Brianna Powers, bronze, Community Service, and Bryce Rawson, bronze, Community Service.
