The number of IT jobs grew 0.05% sequentially last month to 5,331,500 according to TechServe Alliance, the national trade association of the IT & Engineering Staffing and Solutions industry. On a year-over-year basis, IT employment grew by 1.04% since March 2017 adding 55,100 IT workers.
Engineering employment increased by 0.21 percent sequentially to 2,581,600. On a year-over-year basis, growth in engineering employment increased by 1.82% since March 2017 or 46,100 engineering workers.
"After declining steadily throughout 2017 and into January of 2018, the rate of IT job growth edged up slightly in March," stated Mark Roberts, CEO of TechServe Alliance. "While pleased we have seen a reversal in the downward trajectory, the rate of IT job growth still remains anemic. Given that demand for many IT skill set remains strong, the obstacles to job growth has been a limited supply of talent further exacerbated by a restrictive immigration agenda of the current administration," added Roberts.
