Four members of the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America chapter at Starr’s Mill High earned top scores in Digital Storytelling at the Georgia FCCLA Conference in March and are advancing to the national competition.

Paige Grisamore, competing in the junior division, and Olivia Herrmann, Abby Gayda and Megan Dobso, competing in the occupational division, will go up against other top students from around the nation at the FCCLA National Leadership Conference taking place in Atlanta June 28-July 2.

In addition to the students who are advancing to the national competition, several other members of the Starr’s Mill High FCCLA chapter also had a great showing at the state competition. Rachel Stackhouse and Dana Newman took first and second place, respectively, on the Nutrition and Wellness online proficiency test, and the team of Sarah Karol and Dorothy Daniel placed second in Entrepreneurship.

Grisamore, Herrmann, Gayda and Dobso are the only students from Fayette County competing at the FCCLA national conference. Teacher Hope Via is the FCCLA coach for Starr’s Mill High.

FCCLA is a national student organization that helps young men and women become leaders and address important personal, family, work, and societal issues through family and consumer science education.
