SkillsUSA chapters at Fayette County High and Sandy Creek High schools have a combination of nine members who are advancing to the Georgia SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference after taking top placements at their regional competition.

Fayette County High walked away from the Region 5 competition at Southern Crescent Technical College with first place wins in Broadcast News, Extemporaneous Speaking, and Job Skill Demonstration. Students who earned the first-place honors are Rachel Gomes, Clover Harless, Princeton Henry and Ashely Lopez (Broadcast News); Dominic Owens (Extemporaneous Speaking); and Jett Butler (Job Skill Demonstration).

Advisors for the Fayette County High SkillsUSA chapter are Stephen Feilke, Debra Forrester and Jamey Trask.

Sandy Creek High had six students medal in the top three at the Region 5 competition with three of them advancing to the state event. Omari Collier, first place (Pin Design and Presentation); Daniel Jefferson, first place (Computer Internetworking); and Lindsey Dodson, second place (Graphic Communications) will represent the county at the state conference.

Sandy Creek students who medaled in third place include: Amalie Rosales (Advertising Design), Nyah Huguley (Prepared Speech), and Chandler Taylor (Automotive Service).

The Georgia SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference is March 22-24 at the Georgia International Convention Center. Top winners will advance to the National Leadership and Skills Conference June 25-29 in Louisville, Kentucky.
