Volunteers Needed for January 24th, 25th Coweta Works Career Expo

Staff Report From Newnan CEO

Tuesday, January 9th, 2018

Would you like to help the young people of Coweta County discover the possibilities for their world of work? Then join us for the first annual Coweta Works hands-on career expo, scheduled for January 24-25, 2018 at Central Educational Center! The expo will showcase to eighth graders the many careers available and what they involve through interactive, engaging activities.

The Coweta Works Career Expo is a new project of the Coweta County Development Authority and the Newnan-Coweta Chamber. The decision to target eighth graders as the first step in workforce development is a strategic one. Eighth grade is a critical year for students as they decide on their coursework pathways for high school years and beyond. We will create awareness about these career opportunities while addressing the workforce needs in our community.

Existing employers in Coweta County face unfilled job openings due to a shortage of skilled workers and expect additional shortages over the next few years due to retirements. This is the time to prepare our future workforce, and this expo is an exciting step in that direction. To make this expo successful, we need your help. This event will feature nine "worlds" with different exhibits of industry-related businesses and firms. There are many ways to get involved with this groundbreaking event, and over the course of two days, we will need many hands.

If you can help by volunteering at the event, please contact Cynthia Bennett at cynthia@newnancowetachamber.org.
