The Fayette County Public School System thanks the community for its support to continue the one-percent Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax for Fayette’s schools.
The tax passed by the largest margins since the it was first approved by voters in 2008.
Fayette County School Superintendent Dr. Joseph Barrow says he appreciates the confidence and support that the community has for the school system, and shares a special message of gratitude to the county’s voters who made the ESPLOST renewal a victory for students, parents, teachers, and residents of the county.
“On behalf of the Fayette County Board of Education, our 20,120 students, and our faculty and staff, I would like to thank Fayette County voters for continuing the ESPLOST. Our pledge is to continue to be wise stewards of the taxpayers’ money, and to use the revenue to help our school district continue on its quest to become world class,” Barrow says.
The $145 million that the tax is expected to generate will help fund additions, renovations and improvements to schools and buildings, upgrade technology, improve safety and security, and purchase furniture and equipment, new school buses, textbooks and instructional materials, as well as reduce debit service to maintain a low millage rate for property owners.
