Across the county students have helped to provide some relief for those affected by Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma.
Students from Peeples Elementary, Braelinn Elementary, Peachtree City Elementary, and Oak Grove Elementary partnered with Midwest Food Bank to collect over 800 hygiene kits as well as baby supplies. Kedron Elementary, who partnered with Pilot Freight Services, also collected hygiene and baby products along with pet supplies.
Hygiene items included toothbrushes, toothpaste, washcloths, shaving items, and other toiletries; while baby supplies included formula, pacifiers, diapers, bottles, wipes, and food.
Fayetteville Elementary partnered with Girl Scout Troop 15065 to create a school supply drive to benefit students in the Aldine Independent School District in Houston, Texas.
Some schools collected financial donations to help support the hurricane victims, which included students giving their own ice cream money at Crabapple Lane Elementary, and Flat Rock Middle collecting over 300 dollars from student donations.
Tarchell Caruthers, a sixth grade math teacher at Flat Rock Middle says, “We are proud of their fortitude and hard work!”
To show their support, Rising Starr Middle collected several cases of water.
Five fifth grade girls from Sara Harp Minter Elementary created and led the school wide “Care for the Coast” campaign. They were able to collect 30 cases of water, 50 packages of diapers and 100 baby wipes, 300 toiletry items, 50 blankets and sleeping bags, and 50 pairs of socks.
With the help from students, faculty, parents, and the community, all of these items will be delivered to those affected by Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma.
