Monday, September 11th, 2017

Because of the pending impact of Hurricane Irma, the University of West Georgia will be closed on Monday, Sept. 11, and Tuesday, Sept. 12. All classes, campus events and activities will be canceled during this time.

A decision on the status of Wednesday classes and operations will be made by 5 p.m. Tuesday.

All university residence halls will remain open for on campus residents only. University Housing and Residence Life will send additional information. If you have any questions, contact ResStar at (678) 839-4718.

East Commons dining hall will remain open. Campus transit is continuing normal operation and will continue operating unless weather conditions make it unsafe to do so.

Fayette County Public Schools has cancelled school for all students and staff Monday and Tuesday due to the danger of significant high winds. All extracurricular activities have been cancelled for both days as well.

With sustained winds of 40 mph and frequent wind gusts of 45-55 mph on Monday and Tuesday, we feel it will be too dangerous for students to stand outside at school bus stops, or to be driving to school.

The safety of our students, parents and staff is a top priority. At this time, we expect to resume normal school operations on Wednesday.

West Georgia Technical College will be closed Monday, September 11 and Tuesday, September 12 due to inclement weather caused by Hurricane Irma. P
