A West Georgia Technical College faculty member has been appointed district director by the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science’s Georgia Chapter, to serve as representation of nearly 20 counties.

Dr. Phyllis Ingham’s responsibilities as District Five director will include being a close liaison and representation between the membership within the district and the ASCLS board of directors. Major cities in Ingham’s district include LaGrange, Columbus and Americus.

Ingham serves as program director of West Georgia Tech’s Clinical Laboratory Technology and Phlebotomy program.

Ingham said her duties in the position will be to facilitate communication between her district and the board.

“I will be reaching out to hospital laboratories and clinical laboratory education programs within the district on behalf of ASCLS’ Georgia Chapter to encourage participation and membership in the society,” Ingham said.

Ingham said she’s honored to be able to represent West Georgia Tech with the appointment.

“I want to further the mission of ASCLS by making a positive effect in health care through the leadership that will assure excellence in the practice of laboratory medicine,” Ingham said.

Ingham has been a member of ASCLS for 15 years and upholds the shared belief that quality laboratory services are essential to quality healthcare, everyone deserves access to safe, effective, efficient, equitable and patient-centered healthcare and advancing the laboratory profession advances health care in local communities.

“Serving as District Five Director will enable me to promote clinical laboratory science, connect with area hospital and education colleagues, and contribute to the recruitment of dedicated individuals to serve as mentors for new laboratory professionals,” Ingham said. “I look forward to getting to work.”
