Rep. Lynn Smith to Chair Stormwater Study
Monday, July 31st, 2017
State Representative Mike Glanton (D-Jonesboro) was recently appointed by Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) to serve on the Joint Study Committee on Storm-Water Management Fees.
“Currently, many local governments in Georgia have storm-water management plans and utilities in place to manage and ease storm-water runoff,” said Rep. Glanton. “However, these plans include fees that vary significantly for Storm Water Utilities throughout the State, and may, in some cases, disproportionately charge private property owners storm-water collection and disposal fees without regard for an individual’s actual use of this service. I look forward to serving on this study committee as we examine information, outdated and dilapidated water systems infrastructure, current best practices, local control and a more equitable and reasonably balanced approach among residents, business and communities regarding storm-water collection and disposal fees, as well as ways to protect our state’s water quality while also holding stakeholders equally responsible for storm-water system impacts.”
This study committee is created by Senate Resolution 224 during the 2017 legislative session and will examine public policy related to storm-water management fees in Georgia.
