Fayette County Schools Announces Wellness Policy
Thursday, July 6th, 2017
The Fayette County Public School System has developed a wellness policy that was officially approved by the Fayette County Board of Education in 2016, and is updated annually by a wellness committee that meets once a year.
All school systems that participate in the National School Lunch Program are required by federal law to have a wellness policy. The goals and objectives of the policy are to create a healthy school environment by providing nutrition guidelines and education to schools, as well as offering school based activities that promote healthy eating and physical activity.
The wellness committee that recommends updates to the policy is comprised of local stakeholders including school nutrition personnel, teachers, parents, administrators, the school system’s health services coordinator, and members of the community.
Agendas, presentations, and meeting minutes of the committee, as well as a link to the current wellness policy, can be viewed online at www.fcboe.org. Click on the “departments” tab at the top and select the “school nutrition” link. Once on the school nutrition page, click on the “notices” tab and select the “wellness committee” link.
