IT Employment Growth Rate Accelerates Modestly
Monday, March 27th, 2017
The number of IT jobs grew 0.3 percent sequentially last month to 5,272,700, according to TechServe Alliance, the national trade association of the IT & Engineering Staffing and Solutions industry. On a year-over-year basis, IT employment grew by 3.9% since February 2016 adding 196,200 IT workers.
Engineering employment increased by 0.2 percent sequentially to 2,551,800. On a year-over-year basis, growth in engineering employment remained anemic increasing by 0.9% since February 2016 or 23,100 engineering workers.
"IT employment continued to grow with acceleration in the rate of growth in February. While the acceleration was modest, it reverses the general trend of modest deceleration we have seen over the past six months, stated Mark Roberts, CEO of TechServe Alliance. "While the macroeconomic environment remains favorable for continued demand for IT talent, I remain concerned about the potential governmental action which could restrict job growth in the U.S. through restrictive immigration policies---pushing projects and jobs overseas. This would be a horrific outcome for both U.S.-based businesses and workers," observed Roberts.
