A total of 17 students from Fayette County High, McIntosh High, and Sandy Creek High schools took first and second place honors at the 2017 SkillsUSA Georgia Region 5 Competition at Southern Crescent Technical College and are advancing to the state conference in March.

Placing first and receiving gold medals at the competition were (Fayette County High) Kayla Baldon, Broadcast News Production; Keven Khamphounoung, Broadcast News Production; Angelique Maxwell, Broadcast News Production; Angel Roberson-Colbert, Broadcast News Production; (Sandy Creek High) Zach Bramblett, Information Technology Service; Anya Kerkemeyer, Pin Design; Austin Culpepper, Prepared Speech; and Megan D’Errico, T-Shirt Design.

Placing second and receiving silver medals were (Fayette County High) Dominic Owens, Extemporaneous Speaking; Sara Dayani, Prepared Speech; (McIntosh High) Leigh Wheeler, Pin Design; Arik Li, Quiz Bowl; Mark Ni, Quiz Bowl; Man Shah, Quiz Bowl; James Wang, Quiz Bowl; Jonathan Zhang, Quiz Bowl; and (Sandy Creek High) Tyler Ferguson, Graphic Communications.
