West Georgia Technical College welcomed seven members of its state legislative delegation to the College’s Carroll Campus November 29th to share priorities for the coming year.
State Senators Mike Dugan and Bill Heath, State Representatives Kevin Cooke, Randy Nix, and Bob Trammell Jr. joined Senator-elect Matt Brass and Representative-elect Jay Collins to hear presentations from WGTC President Steve Daniel and Technical College System of Georgia Assistant Commissioner for External Affairs Travis Johnson.
Also in attendance was Sara Honeywill, TCSG Senior Director of Facilities Management, and TCSG Regional Program Manager Laura Leigh Vann. Members from the WGTC Board of Directors and the WGTC Foundation Board of Trustees also interacted with the delegation over lunch.
WGTC President Steve Daniel thanked the delegation for their support in obtaining $1.6 million in the current state budget for lab renovations and equipment. The funding is part of the three-year World Class Labs project, which aims to upgrade instructional labs supporting the state’s most crucial skilled labor gaps. This year’s funding provides new equipment in Diesel Equipment Technology and Commercial Truck Driving.
Johnson summarized the Technical College System of Georgia’s budget requests for the coming year and thanked the legislators for their ongoing support.
President Daniel said he was very pleased with the participation of so many area legislators and for the work the delegation does to support education in the region.
“We know that West Georgia Tech provides opportunities for education and training so many people need to build a better life for themselves and their families,“ he said. ”We are grateful that our local legislative delegation recognizes that. We’re also appreciative of the partnerships with our local board members and trustees who represent businesses and industries that have joined with us to urge support for the TCSG and West Georgia Tech initiatives.”
