West Georgia Technical College is offering help for displaced students from ITT Technical College, which shuttered its 130 campuses this week, including one in Douglasville.

The outreach is designed to assist students who may be looking for a way to complete their degree, diploma or certificate programs locally.

“We are concerned about local students who have invested time and money into their education and now may not feel as though they have an option to complete their credential,” WGTC Vice President of Student Affairs Tonya Whitlock said. “We are prepared to work with them individually to help them determine which credits may transfer and what additionalfinancial aid may be available to them.”

WGTC is offering two open house events for displaced students September 29, from 9-11 a.m. and from 5-7 p.m. at its Douglas Campus at 4600 Timber Ridge Drive.

Whitlock said that WGTC, as a unit of the Technical College System of Georgia, has access to state resources that will help them determine how to best help displaced students.

West Georgia Tech is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, and can accept and transfer courses with a number of higher education partners.

“We understand that this has been a traumatic situation for many of these students,” Whitlock said. “We will do our best to help them get back on the right road to completing their credential.”
