West Georgia Tech Phi Beta Lambda Wins Big At National Conference

West Georgia Technical College students brought home nine national top-10 awards from the Phi Beta Lambda National Conference and Competition, held in late June in Atlanta.

More than 1,700 college students from around the country traveled to the Peach State for the conference. Participants enhanced their business skills, expanded their networks and showcased their talents in 60 business and business-related events.

WGTC student and PBL Southern Region Vice President, Candace Grace (Lithia Springs), was selected “Who’s Who in PBL” and WGTC instructor and Douglas Campus chapter advisor Mona Williams was recognized for being named “Georgia’s Advisor of the Year.”

WGTC Carroll Campus co-advisor Joey Sanders competed in the Professional Division and finished in third place in Business Ethics.

The WGTC Carroll Campus chapter finished in second place nationally in March of Dimes fundraising.

The WGTC Douglas Campus chapter received recognition as a PBL “Outstanding Chapter” for a fifth-consecutive year. For the second year in a row, the Douglas Campus chapter achieved the “Chapter Challenge” distinction. The Douglas Campus chapter was also recognized as the local chapter with the most Career and Membership Achievement Program awards from the Southern Region.

“It gives me great pride to see many of our students place nationally at the PBL National Conference,” said West Georgia Technical College President Steve G. Daniel. “I want to thank Mona Williams, Joey Sanders, Carol Pearson and the rest of the WGTC faculty that play a role in the continued success of our Phi Beta Lambda chapters. Once again, great things happen when dedicated educators put forth extra effort to prepare our students for success with the very best training and career education.”

Ginnett Zabala-Perez (Villa Rica) placed in two categories, third in Personal Finance and 10th in Cost Accounting.

Johnny Kitchens (Villa Rica) finished in fourth place in Network Design.

Eric Vaughn (Temple) and Luke Folds (Bremen) both placed sixth in their respective competitions. Vaughn competed in Economic Analysis & Decision Making while Folds competed in Retail Management.

Sherry Gomez (Temple) finished in seventh place in Website Design. David Herrington (Carrollton) finished in seventh place in Cost Accounting.

Susan Kerce (Bremen) brought home a 10th-place finish in Strategic Analysis & Decision Making. Victoria Williams (Douglasville) placed 10th in Local Chapter Annual Business Report, which is considered a chapter event.
