Thousands to Rally at Atlanta Capitol to Celebrate Georgia School Choice Week
Thursday, January 21st, 2016
Thousands of school choice supporters from around the Peach State will celebrate educational opportunity at the capitol’s Liberty Plaza on Wednesday, January 27.
At 11:00 a.m., representatives from all educational options – traditional public schools, public charter schools, magnet schools, private schools, and home education – will share their stories about how school choice has impacted their lives.
The celebration is timed to coincide with National School Choice Week (January 24-30, 2016), which will be America’s largest-ever celebration of opportunity in education with more than 16,000 events being planned.
“Georgia families are desperate for more education options, so being part of National School Choice Week says we’re listening to parents and working to empower them with the best learning options for their children,” said Eric Cochling of the Georgia Center for Opportunity. “We are excited to see such significant growth in participation this year, and I expect that legislators will see this momentum too – making 2016 the year for change in our state.”
The event is being planned by a group of Georgia organizations that includes Georgia Center for Opportunity, American Federation for Children, Brighter Georgia Education Coalition, Connections Academy, Public School Options, Georgia Charter Schools Association, and Georgia Public Policy Foundation.
Held every January, National School Choice Week is an independent public awareness effort designed to shine a positive spotlight on effective education options for every child. Through thousands of independently planned events across the country, National School Choice Week raises public awareness of all types of educational choices available to children. These options include traditional public schools, public charter schools, public magnet schools, online learning, private schools, and homeschooling.
