The Coweta County Hospital Authority has gifted the Coweta Samaritan Clinic $212,500 for its “Enhancing and Expanding Care” campaign. The total campaign goal is $650,000, which will support building updates and the addition of onsite dental services at the Clinic. 

“The Coweta County Hospital Authority has been a tremendous partner of the Clinic since our inception,” said Kay Crosby, M.D, Clinic founder, chairman, and volunteer medical director. “They have graciously allowed us to operate in their building, the former Coweta County Health Department, since 2011, and they have also provided generous annual operating support throughout our existence. This gift is yet another example of their commitment to ensuring our community’s most vulnerable have access to high-quality, comprehensive healthcare.”  

The Coweta County Hospital Authority originated in the 1960s to oversee the construction and operations of the county-owned hospital. Since the sale of the hospital in the early 1980s, the Authority has managed the proceeds from the sale, expending over $15,000,000 towards a mission “to meet the unmet medical needs of the community”. In addition, the Authority funded the construction of the new Coweta County Health Department and financed the construction of the Pathways Behavioral Health Clinic facilities.  

“When the Hospital Authority was approached by the Clinic about their interest in adding services and updating the building, we felt it was the perfect opportunity to support them in furthering the free care they provide,” said Buddy Burns, chairman of the Coweta County Hospital Authority. “The Clinic has done an excellent job serving our community in our Sam Brown Medical Building, and we are thrilled to be part of this next chapter in their story of caring for our neighbors who need them.”

The Coweta Samaritan Clinic opened in October 2011 to provide free primary and specialty healthcare services to uninsured adult residents of Coweta County. Services include testing, procedures, medications, supplies, and psychosocial support. The Clinic has provided nearly 36,000 patient visits at its location near downtown Newnan since opening. 

As the Clinic looks to the future of serving Coweta County, it plans to remodel existing space to create three dental operatories and support areas, including laboratory, sterilization, and storage. The Clinic also has plans to renovate the building, which will result in updated patient exam and support service rooms, lobby, patient resource station, food pantry, medical provider workspace, and HVAC and lighting updates. 

“This wonderful group of Coweta citizens who make up the Coweta County Hospital Authority have been some of our biggest supporters throughout the years,” said Kelly Hines, the Clinic’s executive director. “We are tremendously grateful to them for all the ways they have helped us live out our mission, most recently with their gift to our Enhancing and Expanding Care campaign. We hope their generosity will inspire others in the community to be part of this exciting effort.” 

The Coweta Samaritan Clinic relies solely on community contributions to operate, and this one-time fundraising campaign is separate from its annual fundraising. The community is invited to be part of this crucial effort to improve the lives of Coweta County residents.
