Booth’s Bright Minds Showcase Inventions

Thursday, May 27th, 2021

The brilliant students of J.C. Booth Middle offered a peek at their creations sure to help change the world at their STEM Invention Convention Showcase.

Students were tasked with creating an invention to solve a current problem in society. They completed background research on products similar to their ideas, but they needed to design an original invention, not something already on the market.

The showcase was an opportunity for students to share their creations from the last year. Normally they would participate in the K-12 Inventure Challenge competition, but they could not do that this year due to COVID-19, so the Booth bus loop provided a fun alternative for students to share their work with their parents and the community.

They came up with a wild array of inventions, including a box to clean books with UV light, a grip for video game controllers, a catapult for dog toys, and an apparatus to carry a fishing rod on a bicycle.

“The students worked really hard and had fun designing and creating their ideas. They are so proud that they were able to take an idea and make it a reality,” said STEM science teacher Kristen Butera. “The kids were so excited to share their work with parents, teachers, county-level administrators, and other students.”
