American Heart Month was celebrated in February with elementary schools across Fayette County joining in to help create awareness and show their support.

The American Heart Association recognizes American Heart Month as a time to commit to a healthy lifestyle which can lead to a lifetime of heart health.

The staff at Fayetteville Elementary showed their support for American Heart Month by sponsoring a staff Jeans Day.

Faculty and staff had the opportunity to wear jeans and a red shirt with the purchase of a $5 jeans pass; they raised $300. All proceeds were donated to the American Heart Association. Students also showed their support by wearing red.

Peachtree City Elementary hosted a Chick-fil-A night and raised $250. For every student that wore red the school donated $1 to the American Heart Association.

Braelinn Elementary created a “Go Red!” day where students and staff were encouraged to wear red to show their support. Students participated in Jump Rope for Heart during their P.E. classes. During this time, a representative from the American Heart Association talked with students about the importance of heart health, and students learned jump rope and basketball skills.

Committing to a healthy lifestyle, scheduling prevention check-ups with doctors, and making small changes are ways to help minimize cardiovascular diseases, which can lead to a lifetime of heart health.
