The wait is finally over for students, faculty and parents at Peachtree City Elementary with the official opening of the school’s new media center, gym, and kindergarten and exploratory (art, music, technology) classrooms.

Construction started last year on the mammoth project that resulted in a newly constructed gym and media center for the nearly 50-year old school. The former media center was turned into kindergarten classrooms, and new classrooms were added for art, music and technology.

Peachtree City Elementary held four ribbon cuttings on October 11 to celebrate each new addition, and to give parents and the community an opportunity to take tours of the school. The school’s student ambassadors greeted guests and escorted them to the new media center for a reception prior to the ribbon cuttings.

“We are very excited and proud to have these new additions. Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to make all of this possible,” said school principal Kristin Berryman at the reception.

In addition to parents, staff and students, the event was attended by Fayette County Board of Education members Diane Basham (vice chairman), Brian Anderson, Scott Hollowell, and Leonard Presberg, as well as former member and chairman, Marion Key. Also in attendance was Fayette County School Superintendent Dr. Joseph Barrow, and assistant superintendents Mike Sanders, Tom Gray, and Dr. Terry Oatts, facilities director Mike Satterfield, and chief technology officer Jim Farmer.

Student ambassadors who greeted guests, assisted with the ribbon cuttings, and gave guided tours of the school included Cole Greenfield, Thomas Lacy, Adai Vaidya, Gavin Vu, Aarya Avva, Noah Field, Mahika Kumar, Kriya Goyal, Brianna Lyons, Hannah Smith, Holley Schreibler, Alisa Espinosa, and Emmy Leroux.
