Tuesday, May 30th, 2017

This week, the Governor’s High Demand Career Initiative launched its fifth industry-specific task force with more than 70 employers, educators and industry leaders that work to support a strong workforce for Georgia’s construction industry.

Topics discussed during this inaugural task force meeting included:

  • aging workforce

  • soft skills

  • work-based learning opportunities

  • improved perception and better awareness of the industry

  • increased partnership with educators and industry

  • benefit of communication and inter-connectivity with partners

Members of what is now the largest HDCI task force broke off into small groups to discuss workforce challenges and develop a list of goals that this group will set out to achieve, all with the objective of improving the image and attraction of skilled workers to the construction industry.

"We have a tremendous opportunity to bolster the construction industry by finding solutions to our workforce challenges."

-Mike Dunham, CEO, Association of General Contractors

The HDCI Construction Task Force will meet again on June 20, 2017.
