Georgia DOT Project to Install 'Right Around' Lane on Georgia 85 at Georgia 85 Connector

Road construction crews contracted by the Georgia DOT will begin initial work on a Quick Response project to install a 'right around' lane on Georgia 85 at the Georgia 85 Connector in Fayette County.

A 'right around' lane is a brief extra right-hand lane of roadway that allows drivers on a straight-through highway the opportunity to keep moving around vehicles stopped at an intersection waiting to make a left turn. In this case, motorists traveling westbound on Georgia 85 will be able to take the 'right around' lane around vehicles waiting to turn left onto the Georgia 85 Connector, therefore keeping the flow of traffic going and preventing backups on Georgia 85.

Engineers expect that the entire project should be complete by the end of June, 2020. In coming weeks, the road construction crews may install a lane closure at the work site to give them space to operate their large equipment safely. At these times, signage will be installed around the work zone and drivers are urged to be alert to the situation and to drive carefully through the area.
