Two Fayette middle schools celebrated Computer Science Education Week December 3 – 9.

Computer Science Education Week honors the work of computer scientists from around the globe as well as introduces students to the world of computer science.

To celebrate this week, Flat Rock Middle hosted their annual computer science job fair where various businesses and companies showcased their Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) careers to middle school students.

Businesses included an anti-hacking company, Asysco, a Kennesaw State University professor, an audio mixing company, etc.

Students had the opportunity to ask several business representatives questions about the various careers in computer science as well as explore new interests in the world of technology.

Flat Rock’s STEM coordinator Nateil Carby says, “This job fair is mutually beneficial for both our students and businesses as they create meaningful interactions and connections.”

J.C. Booth Middle and Flat Rock Middle joined thousands of students from across the state to participate in the Hour of Code, which are one-hour engaging experiences used to expose and engage students in coding and computer science

The Hour of Code is a global movement reaching students in over 180 countries.

Students at J.C. Booth received a sticker and a special recognition on social media to celebrate their participation in the coding event.
